The WCGN Zoning Committee recently held two meetings with Mastery-Pickett Charter School addressing the school’s proposal to expand their athletic field to be regulation size for football, soccer, and other field sports. The first was an informal meeting held Wednesday, February 22, attended by 64 persons, and the second was an official RCO meeting held Wednesday, March 1, attended by 122 persons.
The meetings were occasioned by changes the school has made to its plans after a first RCO meeting — held July 6, 2022 and attended by 22 persons — resulted in a vote opposing the project. Most (but not all) of the changes were centered around attempting to minimize the impact of the project on the adjacent community garden.
Owing to some last-minute developments before the meeting, it wasn’t until Monday, March 13, that eligible voters received ballots. Voting results are as follows:
